Where have I been?

This past week was very busy. Between work, my volunteer job at my girl's school, my oldest daughter had two basketball games and her other various activities, I didn't have time to make an entry here. This game was a victory. I'm not sure of the exact score. I can ask her, she is keeping track. I love how it looks like the ball is stuck to her hand! lol.

The team is very good, but has come across two other teams that have been impossible to beat this year. Last year they only lost one game and also took the division title. My girly is playing guard this year, though in all past seasons she played forward. She loves playing forward but due to injuries and girls that didn't play this year, she has stepped up and played where her team needed her most. Since it is her last year in this school, every moment is a big deal to us. I am trying to remember everything and take a lot of pictures. Another game tomorrow and then playoffs. Wish us luck!

Ribbon nest

Here is my project for tonight:

Here is one of two bags of ribbon that are included in the craft section of our house (a.k.a. the basement shelf). They are a tangled, un-rolled, un-wrapped mess. My youngest daughter (Baby Girl) and I are going to unravel it all so it can be used more readily. Tonight is the Extreme Makeover Home Edition filmed in Buffalo, NY. So while we are watching, and crying, we will make sense of this goats nest (sorry, that's a private family joke that I don't have room enough to explain), and organize it to the best of our abilities.

Also, Baby Girl made this case for my new cell phone that has a nice big screen on it. I keep throwing it in my purse and I'm afraid it's going to get scratched flopping around in that pit of who-knows-what.

She's a hand sewer. She sneaks into the basement and an hour later she comes back upstairs with a handsewn item for herself, or her sister, or a friend. I have to get her into sewing lessons so she can learn how to use the machine.

Today, obviously thankful to Baby Girl for making me the cell phone cover, but also thankful for the incredibly blessed life we live. After seeing only a half hour of this Extreme Makover Home Edition, so close to home, my girls and I are thanking God for taking such good care of us. : )

This picture was not taken today

This was taken last July on our vacation in Cape Cod. I happened to find this picture on a file card that was in a great pocket Olympus camera that I broke in the Cape. Because I broke it, and because Olympus file cards only fit their cameras, we couldn't look at these pictures until my husband had them put on a cd.
Anywho...
In this picture is (from right) Me, my nephew-in-law Brian, friend Greg and my great nephew Alex.
While we were sitting here waiting for sunset (it was low tide, by the way), some people were walking in the surf and the mucky wet sand with their labradoodle. Now, you are really not supposed to have your dog on the beach during the summer. But the dog was loose and running through the water.

Along comes another couple with the same kind of dog. Their dog was on a leash and they stood to my left, (probably what I was looking at). I noticed that the dog out in the surf spotted the dog near me and started running full out for the dog up on the beach. I was thinking, and probably commenting, that the people in the water area will never catch their dog now. Well, when this wet sandy dog gets up to the leashed dog, he completely turns left, without stopping, and runs right over to me and starts SHAKING OFF ALL THE LOW TIDE WATER AND SAND ALL OVER ME!! So I started screaming something like "Ahhhh, no, no, no, no! Ahhhhh!!!!! To which my 13 year old looked the other way and pretended she didn't know me. But of all the places for this dog to stop, sure as eggs, it had to be in front of me.

Today my thankfulness lies with my boss, Kim. For Christmas she gave all of us a gift card to use in our store for a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. This morning I didn't have time for breakfast at home and when I got to work I realized I didn't grab any money. But I had the gift card!! So I was able to eat a nice breakfast and ward off a probable hunger headache. : )

I went for a walk in the snow this morning. It felt good to be outside in the sun. This pic is of a creek near my house. I love the bridge over the frozen water. This creek has been a source of great entertainment for our family. We watch beavers, ducks, and geese swim. Herons fishing. Sometimes there are turtles and of course frogs humming and croaking in the summer. Last summer/fall we had a white egret stop in during migration. He fished for hours and was quite interesting. Sometimes local kids jump off this bridge into the mucky water below. They call it "scum jumping". Lol.

I also noticed the tracks on the ice in this picture. I wonder who made them? A squirrel? A fox? Could be a coyote or a dog. Maybe one of the beavers. Do beavers hibernate? I know what they do in the summer.

They chew up the trees along the creek. A couple of times we caught them on the banks, but never while they were chewing a tree.

I got an awsome new camera today so I'm hoping I will have better pictures to share once I figure out how to use it!

I realized I forgot my thankful post yesterday so I have to have two things today. Yesterday I remember being thankful that I have a day off in the middle of the week. :)

Today I am thankful for the beautiful landscape around me. Its wonderful to watch the seasons come and go in this part of the country. One day I hope to post some pictures of the four seasons here. But, I have to get to two more seasons first!

The last time we went to NYC...

This is my husband Ron and I, the last time we went to New York City. It was December, 1991. Isn't it so funny??? He was standing up in a wedding on Long Island but we took a day and headed into Manhattan. This Valentines weekend, we are going back. This time we are going with our friends, Bob and Nicole. Bob has a whirlwind tour planned that I believe includes Ground Zero, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and a Broadway show. I hope we can get to Central Park and especially some bead stores, fabric stores and sample sales (if the men allow) ;).
I'm not keen on flying anymore, though I used to love it. I think too much has happened in the air lately and it's making me nervous. I also didn't have my kids to think about when I was not a mom and flew all over the place. All in all, I'm sure we will have a great time with our friends since we usually laugh ourselves to tears when we are together. I hope to have some good pics of everything when we return! But for now, please enjoy this blast from the past.

Sure as Eggs???

Hello! Welcome to Sure as Eggs. I wanted to name this blog something that would remind me of my mother, so she could be a part of it. She passed away about 18 months ago and I miss her terribly. She is the gal on the right of that great picture I call "London Ladies" in my banner. In the picture is (from right) my Nana, Auntie Margaret (my mom's sister), Auntie Till (my Nana's sister) and of course, my mom. Gabrielle.

Sure as eggs is a saying my mother used to describe something that would happen for sure. Such as "i was carrying a box full of glasses and sure as eggs, I dropped it". I don't know if its a British saying or where it came from. I hope I've described it correctly.

I hope to post here as often as possible and share different things, such as exciting life here in Western NY(lol), craft or sewing projects, easy recipes, scenery from WNY and something I'm thankful for.

Today I am thankful for my husband who took me out for lunch to a quaint little bakery nearby and we doubled the cost of our meal buying luscious baked goods to take home to our girls. Also thankful for my friend Becki who helped me set up this blog. ;)

Thank you for looking at my humble little blog. : ) Please come back soon!
